Went in to buy a longer chain for a necklace for my daughter, it was only silver, but it was marked at £6. The guy decided it was tarnished, took it out the back to "give it a clean" it came back with the price tag missing and an extra £4 added to the price. Also gave me a quote of £280 to put a stone back into a ring. Got it repaired at another jewelers for £75. Absolute rip off of a place. Don't know how they are still going. Bet the old man is turning in his grave if he could see what the family has done to the place.
Have been using Holmans for more than 50 years & have always been more than happy but the last 4 times I have used them the service has been shocking. This time it has taken me 3 weeks & some serious badgering on my part JUST TO GET A REPAIR QUOTE, they are always apologetic & have more excuses than you can shake a stick at but it just is not acceptable! To be fair work quality is good but they seem to think that offering a potential discount "if I can" makes up for the delays & it does not, I want service not discounts!
The proprietor was very knowledgeable and gave a great explanation of how he valued my partner's engagement ring when asked. His understanding of the gems and how they make up the composition shows he is a master of his trade. I would recommend this business.
I went into the shop yesterday to see how much I could get for my diamond earring.. it's an expensive earring and ive had it valued many times by jewellers and antique dealers, he then said it's worth £400 with the bluntest face.. since when was over 1.00ct diamond worth £400? I would never ever go back to that shop again, it looked outdated and old..
